About the Author

Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Tara Kompare graduated from Old Dominion University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1997. She then entered pharmacy school at Virginia Commonwealth University and graduated in 2002 with her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree.

Although she had always wished for a vibrant career, her number one goal in life was to become a mother. And, it was not until after the birth of her second daughter, Lainey, that Tara's world as she knew it came to a screeching halt. Lainey had colic and Tara had postpartum depression. Her dreams of perfect parenting had come to an end. She no longer wanted to be a mom, but instead wanted to run away and join the circus. Since she had always been kind of a clutz, she knew that, unless she wanted to be a clown, circus performing was out of the question. So, she decided to suck it up, seek professional help, and survive those very long, twelve weeks of colic.

It was the hell she endured that provoked her to write about it and help other parents and caregivers going through the same ordeal. She started writing a column called "The Medicine Mom" in 2007 and is still writing today.

Her pharmacy career is going strong and Lainey has officially entered "The Terrible Two's!"
